But he encoraged the recently arrived Hightland Scots to march on Wilmiington to join a British invasion of the two Carolinas colonies.Since the Highlander signed an oath of personal loyalty to the king, they kept their word and gathered to fight. Colonel James Moore ordered several groups of militia men to cut them off. The whigs cut them off at Moores Creek Bridge and as the tories where trying to cross they fifty got killed and then soon retreated.
